So you think you would like to adopt a Meriadoc Beagle Baby...
Our process for prospective adopters is as follows: we don't do waiting lists - we will tell interested people when we plan to breed a bitch and then leave it to them to contact us around that time. Our reason for doing it this way is because we don't breed that often, it can be a while between litters and people's plans can change, or they may decide to get another breed or they are able to find a puppy elsewhere. If we don't have any puppies available or planned we will do our best to help you find another breeder who does.
Once we actually have a litter underway, we like prospective families to come for a visit and meet the gang, if possible. We like to get to know the families that we place puppies with because we try to match puppies personalities with the family so that the puppy is suitable to the family's lifestyle; this significantly enhances your life with your dog. As well in this visit, we discuss our sales contract and give you a chance to get to know us and our dogs, and what our goals are with our Beagles.
We don't take any deposits for puppies until after they are born and we have done a home visit (where possible); this is where we come to visit you and your family. The purpose of this visit is twofold - one is to offer suggestions of what puppy proofing needs to be done in the house and the other is to offer suggestions for puppy proofing the yard.
We sell our puppies for between $1500 and $2000 depending on breeding costs and that price includes a crate that will still be of use when the puppy is an adult. As well, the puppy will have had their first set of shots and will have been examined by a vet, and of course, all registration costs are also included. Our puppies are raised in the house and we make every effort to thoroughly socialize our puppies.
One final item to mention is that our preference is to place dogs close to home (Victoria, Lower Island, Lower Mainland or Washington/Oregon/Idaho) so that we don’t have to fly puppies. If you live outside this area, we will do our best to suggest a breeder closer to you to obtain a puppy from.
If you haven't found it already, a really good resource on the breed can be found at Beagles On The Web.
